'Fire engineering is my discipline, but I am passionate about applying holistic design principles beyond just fire safety to help the built environment deliver positive outcomes for both people and the planet.'

With a passion for delivering creative design solutions, Nate collaborates with colleagues across disciplines, as well as clients and end users, to deliver fire safety engineering solutions that maximise client objectives.

Nate excels at developing innovative solutions for unique engineering challenges, whether it is revising a stair core to maximise sellable space and provide a safer egress for occupants or creating atria design options to best suit the architectural intent and build end user experience.

A standout project for Nate was a 60m tall internal green wall at Collins Square. Using his experience and expertise Nate helped the client turn unappealing commercial space into a premium product. Others highlights include a 200+ vehicle automated vehicle parking system (car stacker) and a grid-scale lithium-ion-based battery energy storage system.

Nate is committed to sharing his passion for fire safety engineering with others in the industry, whether it’s through the Society of Fire Safety or with colleagues out for a jog. Nate has been an industry leader, working with the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) on research for changes to the Building Code of Australia. Nate also co-authored expert reports on fire safety engineering for the University of Sydney’s Warren Centre for engineering innovation and is a regular presenter at technical conferences and CPD sessions.
