To provide a consolidated facility and address the growing enrolment numbers, the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences (FVAS) and School of Agriculture and Food (Food Science) relocated to Building 194. The new faculty includes PC2 physical containment, food chemistry, fume cupboard extraction and laboratory gas provision.
Some unique challenges of the project included:
- Re-purposing an ageing asset to accommodate complex space functions
- Extensive infrastructure upgrades
- Incorporation of fume extraction
- Achieving PC2 compliance
- Understanding the servicing requirements of specialised equipment – new and existing.
The project was delivered through an innovative procurement method using Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), primarily focused on achieving an accelerated design and construction programme.
