East Brunswick Village is a mixed-use multi-residential, commercial and retail development in Melbourne’s vibrant inner north. The village has been designed around the concept of an “Urban Village” with its generous open spaces, amenities and facilities.

Sustainability drivers have sat at the core of the development from project initiation. Our team have given careful consideration to the environmental impact of the development, from the materials used and the way construction waste is managed, to the design of systems that optimise residents’ energy efficiencies.

In the initial design phase, it was crucial to prioritise the building’s orientation and layout to ensure each dwelling surpassed the minimum requirements set by NatHERS. By optimising daylight, energy efficiency, and internal arrangement, we aimed to create comfortable and well-balanced living spaces for future residents.

The project’s sustainable design incorporates several strategies to enhance long-term performance. Solar panels significantly reduce ongoing energy consumption, while the communal rooftop and courtyard areas provide shared outdoor spaces for residents, fostering a sense of community and promoting well-being.

Some of the innovative features of this exceptionally sustainable project included rainwater tanks for toilet and landscape reuse, rooftop solar photovoltaic technology, low VOC materials and high-performance glazing throughout the development.

The project was not without its challenges, and required meticulous, creative planning by our team of brilliant engineers in order to simultaneously improve the NatHERS rating and maintain internal amenity.
