Mecca’s landmark new flagship store on Bourke Street, Melbourne, is one of the largest standalone beauty retail stores in the world.
Set within the historic 140-year-old Cole’s Book Arcade, the heritage-listed CBD building has been reimagined into a 4,000m2 destination that seamlessly blends retail, beauty, wellness and education.
The adaptive reuse fitout sets a new benchmark for experiential retail through its thoughtful design and commitment to sustainability and wellbeing.
Mecca Bourke Street fundamentally shifts the beauty retail paradigm by combining traditional offerings with an immersive customer experience. The multi-functional space comprises a number of dedicated areas for services including hairdressing, floristry, piercing, nails, and facials, while a purpose-built zone for medical-grade treatments allows customers to experience new, innovative skincare procedures in an environment that is both safe and inspiring.

From day one, ADP Consulting worked closely with Mecca to deliver comprehensive base building and fitout services on the project. Our prior involvement and collaboration on Mecca workplace projects uniquely positioned our team to bring this complex vision to life.
The age and heritage features of the building ensured an abundance of technical challenges for our specialist services, ESD and acoustics teams in particular, who were jointly tasked with successfully preserving the building’s historic character and delivering a high-performing, sustainable environment.
Innovative acoustic strategies were implemented by our highly experienced team, ensuring uninterrupted comfort and harmony throughout all spaces.

The project has achieved WELL Building Standard v2 pre-certification with Gold certification in progress, underscoring Mecca’s commitment to creating spaces that actively support human health and wellbeing for both customers and staff.
Grounded in the latest scientific research, the fitout incorporates evidence-based strategies to enhance comfort, air quality, lighting, and mental wellness, promoting healthier, more intentional spaces through thoughtful design and operational protocols.
One of Melbourne’s highest-profile retail launches in recent memory, the flagship store officially opened its doors to the public on 8 August 2025.
