The Victorian Medical Device Prototyping and Scale-Up Facility (“Discovery to Device”) is a one-of-a-kind pathway for medical device accreditation, fostering collaboration between entrepreneurs, startups, manufacturers, and researchers to jointly develop cutting-edge medical technologies.

The Facility is the first ISO-accredited prototyping facility in the Asia Pacific region that specialises in wearable and flexible technologies, and is considered to be a huge asset for attracting talent and investment to the state of Victoria.

The project was led by RMIT University and supported by a consortium of Victorian tertiary institutions that included Swinburne University, Deakin University and Monash University.

ADP Consulting was engaged by RMIT University to provide specialist building services on the project including fire protection, hydraulics, acoustics, mechanical and electrical engineering.

Designed by architect Spowers, the $16.7m project comprised the refurbishment of the existing base building to create four new laboratories and one display/observation area.

Advanced installations within the facility include a Class 1,000 (ISO 6) cleanroom environment for fabrication of biosensors, nanoscale patterning, electronic interfacing and a Class 10,000 (ISO 7) semiconductor clean room environment operating under ISO 13485 protocols.
