The University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) is transforming Building 193 into a modern hub for learning, collaboration and research.

Strategically located near the medical precinct, the redevelopment supports FEIT’s commitment to keeping Chemical, Electrical, and Biomedical Engineering research at the heart of the Parkville campus. The staged refurbishment reimagines the building from the ground up — converting computer labs into flexible Engineering Design Studios, creating collaborative and informal learning spaces, and repurposing existing rooms into contemporary workspaces.

Beyond the interior, the project addresses critical building upgrades including façade repairs, accessibility improvements and new signage, while laying the groundwork for future connections to South Lawn and a new makerspace.

Part of a broader campus transformation strategy, the Building 193 redevelopment reflects FEIT’s long-term vision for infrastructure that supports both student experience and world-class research.
