Logan Hospital Cancer Care Service and Day Treatment Unit is a new 13-chair cancer treatment ward delivered within the existing Building 1 of Logan Hospital, developed on behalf of Health Infrastructure Queensland. Located within Brisbane’s growing southern corridor, the project provides a dedicated, purpose-built space for cancer care and day treatment services, replacing outdated facilities with a modern environment designed to support both clinical excellence and patient comfort. As demand for cancer treatment services continues to grow across South East Queensland, the new ward represents an important investment in expanding Logan Hospital’s capacity to deliver timely, high-quality oncology care to the local community.

ADP Consulting worked closely with Mode Design and INTREC Management to deliver a fully coordinated engineering services package for the new ward, encompassing electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, fire services design, and structural consultancy. ADP was initially engaged to provide services design under a Design and Construct contract with the architect, and was later re-engaged to finalise the design through to construction, continuing to support delivery throughout the construction phase. This continuity of involvement allowed the team to carry forward design intent with a strong level of technical consistency, ensuring the finished ward reflected the original vision while responding to the practical realities encountered on site.

The team’s prior experience working at Logan Hospital across previous projects proved invaluable throughout delivery, providing a strong working knowledge of the site’s existing infrastructure, services routing, and operational constraints. This familiarity allowed the design team to anticipate potential issues early and respond efficiently as they arose. A key challenge on the project was working closely with the builder and trades to navigate on-site issues stemming from the hospital’s ageing infrastructure and previously redundant services, many of which were not fully documented in existing records. Resolving these issues required close, collaborative coordination between ADP, the builder, and trade contractors to ensure the new ward could be integrated seamlessly without disrupting the hospital’s ongoing clinical operations.

Delivering engineering services within a live, operational hospital environment demanded a high degree of sequencing, staging, and risk management, particularly given the sensitivity of works being carried out near active patient care areas. Covering more than 550 square metres in its first stage, the completed ward now provides a modern, well-serviced treatment environment that supports the specialised equipment, infection control, and patient comfort requirements essential to effective cancer care delivery.
