The new hybrid operating theatre at St Vincent’s Hospital Northside is among the most sophisticated theatres in Australia, featuring state-of-the art medical infrastructure and AI-powered robotic imaging technology.

Key elements of the projects include the associated hybrid theatre control room and anaesthetic bay, refurbished and expanded ICU and recovery beds and new theatre staff change amenities.

The new hybrid suite combines the advantages of a surgical operating theatre with high-end imaging to allow teams of cardiologists, interventionalists, surgeons, radiologists and nurses to treat patients requiring complex cardiac or vascular surgery.

Involving both new build and refurbishment works, the new hybrid theatre was located half in the existing building and half in the new section. The project, which was split into five sections due to its size and complexity, was one of the most technically challenging undertaken by our team to date.

On-site works were completed without impacting the delivery of hospital services in the existing adjacent operating theatres, which remained fully operational throughout the project. Our experienced health team worked closely with critical stakeholders to ensure that any risks were mitigated to ensure the safety of patients and visitors at all times.
