Thomas Dixon Centre – home to Queensland Ballet

Brisbane, Qld

Queensland Government

The redevelopment of the historic Queensland Ballet company’s home, the Thomas Dixon Centre, will see the creation of a 356 seat Studio Theatre, 6 Dance Studios, an open-air terrace, and a Wellness Suite.

First built as a boot factory in 1908, the site was purchased by the Queensland Government and refurbished in 1991. It has been home to the Queensland Ballet since.

A vital goal of the redevelopment is to provide world-leading facilities for medical care, injury prevention and mental wellbeing. The project is targeting a WELL Building Standard rating, with the highest rating – Platinum – being the goal and will represent the first WELL rating of a project of this type.

ADP’s scope includes providing WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP) services to guide the design team and client to ensure the best wellbeing outcome for all staff, dancers, and visitors of the Centre.

Dancers will benefit from exceptional facilities, including physio treatment areas, a fully equipped gym, a massage zone, medical consultancy rooms, a pilates space and rehabilitation studio.

Visitors will experience extensive natural daylight throughout the Centre and access to nature provided by the Garden Rooms to public areas with beautiful green surrounds. Staff will thrive off the human-centric design, which includes clear wayfinding, excellent thermal comfort, and enhanced ventilation and air filtration
